When it comes to jigsaw puzzles, we all know that to truly enjoy the end result you need all the pieces. In many ways, life is like that. We spend most of our lives trying to put the pieces together and make sense of life, hoping in the end to create a complete picture out of all the scattered parts.
Yet sometimes it seems like an important piece is missing. Perhaps we’ve been pursuing the wrong pieces to the puzzle from the very beginning. I have found that many people are not even aware that a life without God at the center is a life that has lost the most important piece in the puzzle. And so we look in all the wrong places in search of meaning and purpose.
Others are more fortunate and somehow have understood or perhaps even been taught from a young age that life without God is meaningless, but yet choose to live their lives as if God is not very relevant. Sometimes we even grow accustomed to separating ourselves from God. This makes it easier to turn our backs on God, complicating the sense that something important is missing.
But no matter how far we may drift from God, He wants us near. He even pleaded with His people through the prophet Isaiah: “Why do you spend money for what is not bread, and your wages for what does not satisfy? Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good, and let your soul delight itself in abundance” (Isa. 55:2).
So let me ask you: Why do we try and fill the God-shaped void within our hearts with things that cannot satisfy? If something is missing in your life, remember that God is the only One who can fully and completely satisfy you. Let Him complete the picture of your life. It’s only God who satisfies in ways we cannot even begin to understand.
