In the book of Hebrews chapter 11 there are mentioned several people whose faith was commended by God. Now we call these people heroes of faith but the truth is that most of those people were perfectly normal, just like you and me. Think of all the ordinary people God has used throughout the ages to turn this world upside down.
Think of David the shepherd boy who God raised up to be the greatest king in the history of Israel. God even used Gideon that appeared to be unsure of both himself and God to lead a great army and he turned out to be a man of courage and valor.
Esther is another good example, a simple Jewish girl who saved her people from destruction because she stood up for what was right. God used Deborah, the only female judge in the history of Israel, to lead the armies of Israel into battle when everyone else was afraid. God called two ordinary fishermen, Peter and John, to speak for God with boldness and courage.
You don’t have to be some super hero to serve God. What we may consider insignificant, is significant to God. He said if you’ll be faithful in little, He’ll make you faithful over much. The point is God can use ordinary people like you and me. Zachariah 4:10 says, “Don’t despise the day of small beginnings.”
God clearly looks for ordinary people to turn this world upside down. There exists a place and a calling for every one of us. We all have something to do and something to contribute in God’s great plan to save the world. All that is needed is a sincere desire to surrender all to Christ and let Him use us for His purposes.
God can do a lot with a little. My life is evidence of that! God changed me, and He can change you. When you have been with Jesus, God can use you. The reality is we have more to offer than we may think. When we offer what we have (our gifts, our talents, our money, our service and especially our time) God will take what little we do have and make it much.
Application:
What is before you that you could give to God that you consider to be insignificant, but could be used to bring glory to God? That could reach people? Don’t miss out on opportunities to serve people just because you don’t think you have anything to offer – because God will take your little, and make it do much. Are you willing to put God to the test?
