Have you noticed how most people just love to hear secrets? If I were to tell you that God has a secret, a secret that would not only improve the quality of your life but more importantly improve your relationship with Him and others, would you be interested? The truth is that many Christians are no longer satisfied with the state of their spiritual lives and are looking for an authentic, vibrant, living relationship with God. In other words we want to rise above our current level of spirituality. We are looking for the secret way in our spiritual lives.
Unfortunately, instead of daily surrendering our lives to Christ and relying on the regeneration and the renewal of the Holy Spirit many are looking for the shortcut to spirituality, the so-called “quick-fix”. But there is no secret way. One might say that spiritual growth takes time, and lots of it. While conversion happens instantaneously, transformation takes a lifetime as we daily surrender our lives to the influence of Holy Spirit.
No better is this illustrated as in the in the Parable of the Sower recorded in Matthew 13:23 where Jesus talked about those who hear God's Word and then follow it through from beginning to end: “But he who received seed on the good ground is he who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and produces some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty”.
It is really important that we absorb as much of God’s word as we can, but we also need to understand what we are reading and more importantly learn to apply the truths in our everyday lives. The Bible tells us that we are to think about and meditate upon God's Word day and night (see Psalm 1:1-2). The truth is that nobody ever outgrows the Word of God.
I have found that the more we read and study the words of truth, the more our understanding of the love and grace of God widens and deepens over time. And the result of such a divine encounter is that you will bring forth spiritual fruit. One might say that our goal as Christians is to be conformed into the image of Jesus (become more and more like Jesus) and to bring forth spiritual fruit as we glorify God with our lives (2 Cor. 3:18). That is what we should be focusing on.
So let me ask you: Are you willing to follow through from beginning to end? Are you willing to share the best kept secret with others?
God bless
Berny
